The making of Hachiko

How I went about casting this large (lifesize) sculpture of a dog. 

Hachiko was a famous dog in Japan who is remembered for his faithfulness.  This sculpture sits outside Tokyo station in Japan.  I was commissioned in the UK to provide a copy of this sculpture for a presentation to a Japanese businessman in London.

First get pictures of the sculpture to be produced (or live animal as normally preferred!) and ascertain the dimensions.

Creating the model in clay to the specified size and shape.

Starting to cast by creating barriers and covering with rubber mould.

Add a layer of fibreglass to hold the rubber in the correct position.

To cast another copy of this into a stone composite would cost £2,300.00 - in bronze it would be around £6,000.
